What is Garcinia Cambogia?
Garcinia Cambogia is a fruit that stems from southeast of Asia. The fruit is known with many names which include, among others, tamarind and Garcinia Gummi-Gutta. When the fruit is ripe, it appears in a greenish and yellowish color and its size looks-like the size of an orange while its shape resembles that one of a pumpkin.

Modern discoveries of science have led to the discovery of health benefits that Garcinia Cambogia has in human beings. It was linked to various benefits particularly in weight loss.
Why do scientists link Garcinia Cambogia to weight loss?
The fruit has been found to have, from its rind, a natural substance known as hydroxycitric acid (HCA). Hydroxycitric acid is a natural extract from Garcinia Cambogia fruit and is attributed to weight loss properties that the fruit is renowned of.
Studies were done to ascertain the properties of weight loss that the fruit is said to have in human beings. Firstly, the trials were conducted in animals, rats, to observe the efficacy of the fruit in reducing body weight. Rats were fed the extract of this fruit and were put on a high fat diet that was presumed to make the rats fat. Surprisingly, these animals have not shown any increase in body weight. This observation has led to conclusions that Garcinia Cambogia is capable of reducing the body weight in rats as they partly resemble the metabolism of human beings.
Garcinia Cambogia was found to have effects on the production of fats from sugar in rats. It inhibits citrate lyase as the enzyme that stimulates production of fats from carbohydrates. Hormonal effects were also seen from the fruit. It has effects on the levels of serotonin.
Clinical trials were also conducted in human beings. The popular study that was done has had a group of volunteers who assigned to test the effects of Garcinia Cambogia on body weight loss. The group was split into two where the other group was given the extract of this fruit, HCA, and the other group had placebo as the control. Remarkably, those who took the extract lost more weight compared to the control group.

Based on the clinical trials it can be concluded that the fruit does help reduce body weight. More results were obtained from mice and humans. The fruit is largely marketed as the weight loss supplement and the active ingredient is Hydroxycitric acid.
